The Joslyn Universal Vac-Rupter^Ò Interrupter (UVI) converts an isolating switch into a load interrupter switch. The Vac-Rupter allows the switch to be used for full load interruption up to 34.5kV or for the reduced recovery voltage application of loop splitting or parallel switching up to 230kV depending upon system voltage, grounding considerations of the system and load, and the characteristics of the load.

Universal Vac-Rupters can be quickly mounted on most types of group operated isolating switches of all manufacturers. Conversion of an existing air switch is easily achieved since no special tools or training is required. Procedures are simple for installing the interrupter, fixed and moving arc horns, and verifying proper operation. Adding a Vac-Rupterwill not affect the mechanical operation of the switch.

The UVI can also be applied for line dropping and cable switching at system voltages to 25kV, but can be extended to 72.5kV with the Voltage Limiter attachment.

Maintenance-Free

Long life of 5,000 operations.

Ease of Installation

Three phase sets can be installed quickly and easily in approximately 4 hours.

Rugged Construction

Anodized aluminum mechanism housing protects against corrosive action and sealed vacuum interrupter chamber is sealed against moisture, ultraviolet activity, and contamination - no SF-6 gas or oil is used.

Safe Interruption

Interruption is noiseless and liberates no hot exhaust or ionized gases.

Installations of more than 35 years demonstrate the reliability and proven performance of the interrupter.

Air Switch Ratings Unaffected

The continuous, momentary, and impulse ratings of the switch are unaffected since the UVI is in the power circuit for a few seconds.
